Make a unicorn stick horse for hours of fun! Just like a hobby horse but better because it is a cool unicorn.

Unicorn Stick Horse Supplies

• white cardstock
• Unicorn Template
• yarn for mane
• glue
• yardstick
• googly eyes
• glitter
• scissors
• printer
• ribbon for bridle

Unicorn stick horse DIY

Download the unicorn template. Cut out two unicorn heads and the horn out of heavyweight white cardboard or cardstock.

Printable Unicorn Template

With a small amount of glue (especially along the back of the head), glue the two unicorn heads together along the outside edge. Be sure to leave the neck open and place the horn between the cardboard at the top. Allow glue to dry.

Punch holes along the back of the head.

Tie the long pieces of yarn in each of the holes to make a beautiful unicorn mane. This is a great way to use up leftover yarn. If you don’t have yarn try strips of crepe paper or tulle.

Add a drop of glue to attach a googly eye on each side.

Paint a thin layer of glue on the horn and add some sparkly glitter.

How is easy was that to make a glittery unicorn with flowing mane.

Stick a yardstick or wooden dowel in the neck opening and you are ready to ride! We did end up tying on a piece of ribbon to look like a bridle. This gave the girls something to hold onto.

I was surprised at how many hours of fun these unicorn stick horses gave the girls!

This fun craft has the cutest printable unicorn features that could be used for many different crafts! You might even like to add the printed glitter horn to your stick unicorn hobby horse!…… and a few of the flowers.

A chocolate mug cake is the perfect solution to chocolate craving and also makes a sweet little last minute gift!

Chocolate Mug Cake

Turn this chocolaty treat into a cute little gift with free printable gift tags.

Place the chocolate mug cake ingredients into a plastic bag and place inside a cut mug.

Print off the tags. They are in black and white so they may be printed on a wide variety of colored card-stock.  Cut out the tags and punch a hole in the top of the tag and attach the tags to the mug handle or the plastic bag. Each mug will get two tags. One that says, “You take the cake!” and one with the chocolate mug cake instructions. If you like they could also be printed front and back to make one tag.

I must admit this has become my secret weapon for chocolate cravings. Warm gooey chocolate cake in less than five minutes start to finish! Yum. I personally like it a bit underdone so it tastes more like a lava cake. If you want to cut back on fat and calories 1 Tablespoon of oil works great!

Chocolate Mug Cake Recipe

This recipe is delicious made gluten and dairy free. Because of this easy recipe, I am now able to have chocolate cake anytime! When I make this chocolate mug cake for myself I make the following changes.

Gluten and Dairy Free Chocolate Mug Cake

1/4 cup gluten-free flour (my favorite blend)
1/4 cup white sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (it also works great with 1 Tablespoon if conscious about fat)
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 cup Enjoy Life mini chocolate chips

I was asked to bring a dessert to a girls gathering and made these to take.  I was able to gift a cute mug and then we all whipped up our own dessert! So fun and delicious!

My family also loves this Toll House Pie when they need a sweet treat. It is for sure our family favorite.

1. Fold each edge to the center.

2. Fold the white tips of the bill under.

3. Fold the corners to the center as shown.

4. Divide the bill into thirds. It should tuck under the collar.

5. Before tucking under the collar, at the third fold line bring out the edge and make a squash fold on each side.

6. Tuck the end under the collar and you have a money origami shirt!

Download the free incredi-ball Dad tags and labels.  I printed the printable on kraft colored card-stock to make a tag. To make the printable into a label I printed on label paper from the copy store.

Cut out the tags and attach to Ball canning jar with twine or ribbon. If you printed on a solid sheet of label paper cut around the design. Remove the paper backing and stick to the side of the canning jar.

Learning about the family tree can be so much fun for children!  Young children especially love to see how the family tree is all connected.  Who is dad’s dad?  Who is mom’s mom?  Working with younger grades doesn’t require a bunch of genealogy research, and this free printable family tree is the perfect size to get you started!

Simple Family Tree Chart

Get out the crayons and have some fun talking about your family history.  Each circle has a name, and each name has a great story or a funny memory attached to it!  This is a three generation family tree and has spots for just the basic family members–including the child.  It is not a detailed genealogy chart, but it is a perfect coloring page for kids. Say goodbye to stinky sports gear! Homemade deodorizer spray for sports equipment to the rescue!

As a mom of busy kids, I often find myself in the role of cheerleader, picture taker, and of course taxi driver.  I love watching my kids play sports, sitting on the sidelines cheering them on, and as funny as it may sound–I love driving them around to and from practice and games (well, most days!)  The best conversations can be had post-practice on that long drive home.  I love to hear their thoughts and just catch up with them after a busy day and crazy evening.  This sweet time can be ruined in a quick second as they take off their shoes, remove their kneepads or shin guards, or even just unzip their sports bag in the small confined space of the back seat.  All of the sudden the car smells like vomit, windows are rolled down, and I am gagging as I try to keep us on the road.  The sweet moment is ruined!

Essential Oils Deodorizer Spray

Recently one of my oil-loving friends turned me on to diffusing some oils in our house, and my family quickly fell in love with the mood-enhancing scents filling our home.  I have to admit I wasn’t too sure about this whole ordeal, but it was easy enough to use and my family seemed to love it.  I was a skeptic, but you can’t really disagree with a clean smelling house!

When I did a little research, I found that tea tree oil has been used as an anti-fungal and antibacterial product for 1000’s of years.  Still a skeptic, I loved the spray my yoga studio was using to clean the mats and when I found out it was an essential oil mix, I decided to give it a try.  I experimented with a few different recipes, and I landed on a deodorizer spray blend that my kids love and seriously removes the stink from their sports equipment and their bags.  It even works inside of stinky shoes!  I mix it up in little glass bottles that I found on Amazon (affiliate link) and everyone carries one in their sports bag.  This recipe has changed my life and brought back those sweet conversations on the ride home!

Homemade Deodorizer Spray for Sports Equipment

This is safe for sports equipment, bags, and shoes, but I do not recommend spraying it directly on the skin, or your stinky athlete!

• 30 drops Tea Tree Oil
• 20 drops Eucalyptus Oil
• 20 drops Peppermint Oil
• 10 drops Lemon Oil
• 10 drops Lavender Oil
• 1-ounce Witch Hazel (alcohol-free)
• 2 ounce Water

Mix all of the ingredients in a small glass bottle.  Spray on sports equipment and in shoes and bags after each use.  Allow to air dry.

How to use Homemade Deodorizer Spray

Because the oil in this recipe is a high level of concentration, it will be effective in killing the bacteria that causes the smell, and not just covering it up like some chemical based deodorizers.  That also means that it could irritate skin, so make sure you don’t spray it directly on the skin (even though it can be the whole athlete that is stinky!)  It is also a good idea to let the equipment air dry, so spray it after practice and not before.  Please remember that I am not a doctor, health practitioner, or an oil guru.  I am just a mom, running research and development out of my kitchen and trying to survive life with kids as athletes!

I have used this spray with much success on:

• yoga mats
• soccer shin guards
• volleyball knee pads
• inside of sports shoes and cleats
• ankle braces (athletic supports)
• gym bags
• batting gloves

It is also worth a mention, that I still wash sports equipment at least a couple of times a season.  As a skeptic turned believer, I can honestly say that we love this spray, and I was pleasantly surprised when I learned that peppermint oil was such an incredible and useful tool for our family too!

Download, print on regular copy paper and let them color away. Coloring pages are a great activity for kids and adults!  I usually set coloring sheets out with a variety of colored pencils outside on a table and also inside on a table. This gives guests a chance to take a break from swimming or the heat and relax with a bit of coloring. They also will have something to take home!

TIPS:

• If it is a hot day make sure to only use colored pencils outside. Crayons will melt.
• Place a rock or heavy object on the stack of coloring pages so a gust of wind doesn’t blow them away.
• It is nice to have a place to display the coloring pages before guests take them home.
• Covering a table with white butcher paper is another fun way to provide a coloring spot at a party
